U JUMP I JUMP

Finally I watched Titanic. Yup it’s the so called epic love story and I never watch it. Like I care haha. But since it comes in 3D, lets give Titanic a chance, shall we? They come out in 3d form. In memoir of 100 years after the ‘unsinkable’ ship hit the iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on the night of April 14, 1912, and sunk just over two-and-a-half hours later. What a stats huh?
the titanic
My question, at the end of the story is how can people love someone that he/she barely knew so dearly that you sacrifice your life for him/her? Is it possible? Does it make sense? I mean, its only few days, and you are willing to catch the grenade for your lover (analogy berkorban untuk cinta sekarang pakai lagu Bruno Mars hehe).
Ok la I admit la romantic la seposen part ni hehe. Nanti orang cakap I hati kayu pulak. ;)
Rose is the perfect example to show that love can’t be forced (cinta tak boleh dipaksa ok). Cal is rich (but ugly lol. Why does he has to put that eyeliner on?). But she is not happy (although she loves all the expensive paintings. Mata duitan jugak kau Rose). She found her happiness in that poor, bubbly boy, Jack. Jack is determined to enlighten Rose what real love is. To cut the story short, yadda yadda, u jump I jump. Hehe.

I think I don’t have to review much on that movie, everybody has watch it right, except me. So lame. The 3D effect? Pfftt! Nothing much. Tak cantik pon. But what do I expect, its not like they remake the movie pon.

And the ultimate morale and lesson of the Titanic (the real Titanic collision, not the lovey-dovey Rose-Jack version)? Leadership failed! Yes. Leadership. It’s the captain, the engineer, the owner, the boss, who make the call to speed it up. To test the limit. Quoted from Titanic-facts.com: On the morning of April 15, 1912, the sinking of the Titanic the previous night shocked the world. The year had dawned bright with promise and the maiden voyage of the Titanic was a symbol of the advances mankind had made in the last few years. The ship was considered to have been so well constructed it was believed she could sustain any amount of damage and still remain afloat. Late on the night of April 14, 1912, the sinking of the Titanic proved this idea wrong in a horribly tragic way.

Secondly, don’t be too proud of what u have. We are merely human after all. Especially as a Muslim, we have faith that Allah is the Almighty. So no matter how good u are (or u think u are), just remember that God is way better. We only plan, and Allah is the ultimate planner. So pray fellas. No matter what car u drive, what ship u sail, no matter how good the manufacturing is, always rely on Allah for your plan to run smoothly, for your journey to be safe.

Thirdly, rich people are bitches and bastards! Nuff said. Well, not all of them, but majority of them.

Another lesson. I went for the movie with a friend. And here’s our conversation:

Me: Rose ni gemuk jugak eh.
My friend: Aah.
And when the story is about to end, during the scene where Rose is freezing to death and not realizing that her u jump I jump lover is already resting in peace (or rather resting in the cold Atlantic), we continue our amateur review:
Me: Ni mesti hypothermic ni, sejuk gile.
My friend: Nak tau sebab apa Rose tak mati? Sebab dia banyak lemak.
Me: *Rolling eyes*.

Hahaha that was Titanic’s punch line.

p/s thank you ;)

WORDLESS WEDNESDAY: THE FIRM

My current re-read
Have read it before during matriculation time (that was about 7 years ago)
Re-read in conjunction (wah) with the premiere of new series adopted from the novel on AXN (tapi Ila cakap the series is actually revolving around what happened afterwards, as there is actually a movie based on the novel, played by Tom Cruise in 1993. Haha tak tahu pon..).
And in the series Mitch McDeere is played by Josh Lucas *big grin*
Anyway ini buku Ila. Murah kan?

THE HELP REVIEW: FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT

So I watched The Help. When I watched the trailer and read the synopsis, it catches my attention –racial issue between black and white, civil right movement, and fight for justice in America in 1960s. It reminds me of Remember the Titans and A Time to Kill (from the unfair treatment to the black point of view). Well it is not as good as the two movies, but the message is there.

The Help is adapted from a 2009 novel by Kathryn Stockett of the same name. I didn’t read the novel though (not yet, am looking for it at the moment. Kuantan bookstore is so pathetic!). This is the synopsis taken from websites, as I am so lazy to make my own:

-The Help stars Emma Stone as Skeeter, Viola Davis as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny-three very different, extraordinary women in Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed-even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times (Rotten Tomatoes).

-An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid's point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis (IMDb).

This kind of movie always caught my attention. It gave me goose bump seeing how brave and courageous people can be to fight for their right. Maybe Aibileen Clark it is not as moving or aspiring as Coach Boone in Remember the Titans (played by the legendary Denzel Washington),  but she nailed the character very well. I can see her despair and sorrow whenever the maids were been treated like a non-human whom doesn’t have heart and feeling by their misses. And I love how Minny Jackson has her own way to speak her mind and give lesson to people. Yucks but yeay Minny! And I love ur big round eyes! As for Skeeter, I don’t see her as a strong character, but of course she is nice. OMG I love her hair (so cantik laaa) and her laugh. I never notice u before, Emma. U berlakon cerita ape eh?

The other thing I love about the movie is the set. Jackson is well portrayed as a clean, neat and tidy, and green small town. The house yards are beautiful! And their dresses. Sangat cantik and classy ok. ;)

The only thing I found lacking is how the director illustrates the friendship between Skeeter-Aibileen-Minny. It is not as strong as I imagined it would be. If the director could show a bit more on their true friendship, or how they are willing to sacrifice for each other, it will be perfect.

Remember the Titans is better because it involved sports, and it is a true story not fictional. Its really inspiring to see how people unite by it. A Time to Kill is even better because a father (played by another great actor Samuel L Jackson) is looking for justice for her own daughter that could not be served by the system. But of course all three brought tears to my eyes, tehee…

Lastly, a quote from Aibileen:
‘You are kind, you are smart, you are important’.
Yes you! ;)
